The lucky winner, Kimio Wheaton, will receive expert guidance, from Pucho Web Solutions, in setting up website traffic reporting which will give him valuable information to optimize his online business. Kimio plans to use his prize with a new web site he is currently planning for a 2014 debut.

Atmosphere was festive. Everybody had good cheer.

Serve the People

Serve the People: The Asian American Movement in New York charts a history of Asian American activism, organizing, and cultural production in the 1970s, the first exhibition to focus on New York as a center of this national phenomenon. Through posters, leaflets, newspapers, film, and music, Serve the People shows how Asian American identity was shaped by reclaimed histories, revolutionary politics, feminist awareness, third worldism, and community organizing. The culture created by young activists and artists in the movement embodied their ideals, speaking to the excitement and urgency of the time.

Chinese protest ABC, Disney and Jimmy Kimmel

On Saturday November 9, 2013 in Times Square from noon until 2PM there was a protest against ABC's Jimmy Kimmel show.

Protesters did not like use of comedy to bring up a dark subject that they took personally. They are so hurt and even afraid of passive aggressive violence from other members of society.

There is an old American Proverb that goes like:

Out of the mouths of babes (oft times come gems).

Children occasionally say remarkable or insightful things. For example: Mr. and Mrs. Doyle were quietly bickering in the kitchen when their seven-year-old daughter came in and said, "You guys should get counseling." After a surprised pause, Mrs. Doyle remarked, "out of the mouths of babes." Child: Don't eat so much candy, Mommy. Candy is bad for your teeth. Mother: out of the mouths of babes oft times come gems.

The Kilowatt band has been performing for runners of New York City Marathon for a few years now.

Last year, Super Storm Sandy abruptly cancelled New York Marathon. This year, Kilowatt is back in action.

I won a raffle for a huge print by Gabriel Biderman. I first met Gabe at BH Event Space. I attended his class twice.  His night photography seminar was very interesting. There are so many definitions of time. Such as Civil, nautical, and astronomical twilight. In his presentation, Gabriel also went into details about camera setting and equipment to be used for night photography. He became one of my favorite instructors. What a coincidence it was to win raffle for his print.

Great weather today but uneven lighting conditions at today's event. Clear sky creates areas that are both too dark and too light on subjects. Images can also suffer color cast if one side is lit by direct sunlight while other portions of image are in shade because color temperature of  shade about 40% higher than sunlight.

30th Anniversary OANNY Video

Produced, shot and edited video 30th Anniversary Okinawa American Association of New York (OAANY) celebration which featured special guest who flew in perform at the event.

Project involved renting camera equipment from Downtown Community Television (DCTV), working with performers and staff, shooting the live event, editing video, creating DVD labels, disc duplication, boxing of materials and final delivery to OAANY for sale to its members.

Danny Chen Birthday Card Campaign

Private Danny Chen, a Chinese-American solider from Chinatown New York, recently died while stationed in Afghanistan. Danny would have turned 20 on May 26, 2012.

As part of a larger initiative to raise awareness regarding the circumstances of his death, the Organization of Chinese Americans-New York Chapter (OCA-NY)  is leading the Danny Chen Birthday Card Campaign.

2012 Trivia Bowl for AAJA-NY

Produced, shot and edited the Asian American Journalists Association of New York's (AAJA-NY) inaugural Trivia Bowl fundraiser kicked off at ABCTV 1 Studio Friday, May 18th. The event matched with dollar amounts raising money $16,000 for j-school student scholarships and internships, and professional journalist stipends and programs.


Sixteen teams competed — from the New York Times, CNN, Asian American Bar Association to the CUNY Association of Black Journalists — to win the coveted Tea Cup trophy and bragging rights. Real judges from the New York area including the Honorable Marilyn D. Go, and the Honorable John Lansden, scoring the answers and ABC News Correspondent Juju Chang and FOX 5 reporter Ti-Hua Chang hosting the evenings festivities. LA transplant, now New Yorker Leezel Tanglao of ABC News and Bao Ong, freelance food writer co-chaired the exciting event. Aside from the mind-grinding trivia, there were live auctions and raffle drawings. The most talked about prizes included a signed Jeremy Lin basketball, which went for $650, and raffle drawings for hotel stay for two at the Kitano ($1200 value) and two round trip tickets anywhere from Virgin Airlines ($2,918 value).

As for the trivia, the Asian American Bar Association seemed destined to win, as they were leading through through the first three rounds, but it was the New York Times who ended up slaying the lawyers. The New York Times won the Tea Cup trophy, the Asian American Bar Association came in 2nd, and ABC came in 3rd. Jamba Juice came in last winning ramen noodles, and Juju Chang joked that someone must have spiked their juice.

The Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) is a AAJA is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization focused on diversity in the newsroom and in the news. The New York Chapter is the largest of AAJA's 21 chapters, with 250+ members. AAJA-NY's Trivia Bowl co-chairs and lead organizers are Leezel Tanglao of ABC News and Bao Ong, freelance food writer.

PS116 Tournament Video featuring Parents and Students

PS 116 Tournament was held Sunday February 19, 2012. More than 200 kids were playing that day. There were many first time students and parents in attendance, a few new schools represented, and a few first tournament of the year jitters for all the old-timers.


PS 116 is also called The Mary Lindley Murray School.
